With this being some of Idaho's most beautifully wooded area and just a short drive from our local towns, you would be surprised how many "local" people have never been here. It's always fun to fill them in on some history of the area and it's many interesting places to go.
The Happy Hermit Resort was original a tool and equipment shed back in the late 1960's, early 70's. Owned by Carol Bertoni, who later remarried and is know to many of the old timers as Carol Young. Carol decided to turn the old shed into a bar and see if she could get people to come to her establishment. Boy did they. With the winters being much better back in the 70's than now, her business started booming. She eventually had some restraunt equipment brought in and started feeding everyone as well. Carol Young decided she needed a break in early 90's and various other people have tried there hand at making this place work, unfortuntly no one was able to handle the solitude that this place has to offer.
Ron and Linda Utz have been making this place their second home for over 30 years now. Ron's father was a foreman at one of the silver mines in the area back in the 1950's. With all that the area has to offer I can see why they have made it their home.
You defenitly have the four seasons. You can hunt wild mushrooms in the early spring and late fall. There are elderberries, thimbleberries and huckleberries in the summer. Hunting in the fall and snowmobiling in the winter. And don't forget you can ride your ATV's all year long. During the summer you can drive in as well, just be aware that you are NOT the only one on the road.
With over 500 miles in Forest Service roads and trails it's easy to get lost. Make sure you take your time to take in the sights as well as breath in the fresh air. You never know what kind of wildlife is lurking about, so keep your eyes peeled.
So if you're looking for a place to escape to for the day or the week make sure you stop and say hello. We have alot to offer and the food is really great. We know once you have been here you won't be able to stop yourself from coming back.
We do Birthday Parties, Family Reunions, Company Parties and Club Events. Just let us know what your special occasion is and we will be happy to come up with something.
